I found a virus!!!

WHEEEEEEEEE!!!

Now, it may sound weird to some of you, but I actually got rather industriously excited about it...even though it was a crappy 'homepage fix' one which appeared suddenly from a quizilla pop up...

Info here!!

Kerio stopped any of its arsery, then I had a bit of cranky-agitat-ey fun with Process Viewer and AVG...killed the silly thing, and now it's sorry ass is in a folder for 'examination'...

*holds up hand and admits to geek joy*

Why was I so excited??

Because I have NEVER had a virus on a PC before...even though I've been on teh interweb since 1996-ish proper - though I started off with Gopher and BBS at Liverpool Uni in 1994-1995!!

I've always been strict as hell with everything...uninstalled outlook many many moons ago, use unconventional browsers such as MYIE and Opera, evilly obsessed with LavaSoft Ad-Aware and various other programs of delight...and this comp is rather 'tight' in general...

(so this narked me somewhat)

The last virii I had were a couple of curios on a couple of Amiga disks in 1995ish which never got to eat anything anyway...

So fascinating they were that I still have the disks and, at the time, actually contemplated framing 'Byte Bandit' and 'Lamer Exterminator' to look at from day to day...

I need my head examined.

In Other News: I'm seriously flat broke till the end of the month, can't collect my film from the chemist until Friday, found out that my 'late marks' were miscalculated and I'd only been late once last week (yes, I went on the warpath) and am off to Photography class at college before work this evening...

So I ought to get to bed really. Need sleep!!

Yes, me too, it does a good job, although it's a tad shaky when it comes to CSS. You can get some handy plugins for it too.

I have SlickRun for that!

(and a nice shiny silver interweb keyboard)

The last virus I encountered was W95.CIH in 1999/2000, I found my computer riddled with it, and it even wiped my twin's computer, though he'd only had Windows 95 installed for 3 days.

There is something curiously exciting about these things, even though we don't want them buggering our computer up. I like to run Spybot S&D and the like, hoping it'll find some evil tracker or spyware.

Blimey, those Amiga viruses brough back a few memories. "Something wonderful has happened" has a certain resonance to those that remember it.

"Symantec still believes the virus is in the wild"

Wheee!! What size PokeBall should I use to collect that?? I think I'd need at least a 'master ball' by now lolol!!

I do rather love the bio-tech image that sentence conjures up... Like long chomping tapeworms with huge gaping maws, wiggling through cyber-space, ready to latch onto anything and give it a good suck...

*need coffee*

(I think I'm losing it lol!!)

Two very useful apps.

"SpyBot: Search and Destroy"
http://www.safer-networking.org/

"SpamBayes", an amazingly efftive spam filter, works best with OutLook (if you ever want to switch back)

I think I've tried SpyBot, along with many others...languishing in the heaving 'installers' folder on this comp...

Might take a look at SpamBayes - but never ever going to even start using Outlook lol...I only ever use webmail, and sometimes, the mail client in Opera - so much nicer to manage;)

I am also equally obsessed with LavaSoft Ad-Aware. I think the world of it, and run it at least once a day. (((KILL PESKY SPYWARE CRAP!!!)))
