Don't put your daughter on the stage, Mrs Worthington!! [Sep. 12th, 2003|04:52 pm]

[Music |Tumbledryer going round in the kitchen...I have a headache!]

I'm blaming Snoopy and Bagpuss again.

Theatre yesterday evening was great! Met up at 6pm for the first christmas show rehearsal...there were loads of people there...and a really good ensemble atmosphere which was utterly fantastic for a first meeting considering none of us had ever met before...and for a community production, the sense of 'togetherness' was superb!

We did an exercise where we all stand facing the audience and looking out, then, when it feels right, take a step forward...everyone was together! There were no leaders...just an amazing ensemble rapport...ooh I could go on about it for hours...

The design ideas, and the creative process behind the christmas show sounds brilliant...it's basically the story of scheherazade...(so we'll have a bit of a scary/erotic atmos to start with...since all the other wives/concubines were beheaded...) but each story is from a different part of the world...an inuit boy who becomes a seal...a story from Persia/Kurdistan...another from Russia....and so on...but with panto elements of Arabian Nights and Ali Baba thrown in...so there's the usual 'grand vizier' (evil male char played by a girl...bet that'll be me again...I always end up male lol) and Dame etc etc...

Staging wise...the entire theatre...bar, entry...everywhere is going to be done up like a Souk/Bazaar with heavy incense smells, authentic food, belly dancing, music, rich fabric tents and stuff...but then the audience will go upstairs and see a stage full of sand, with lots of gauzes for backlighting/front projection...and a video of an old victorian christmas tree in a square...and lots of little children in victorian dress stood around reading storybooks...

...from Egyptian/Arab Souk to Victorian England just by going up the stairs...

...the entire projection will involve dance, video installation, elements of panto, physical theatre and huge costume design (yay!) for all the diff countries...all done with a community cast!!

It's going to be AMAZING!! And, yes, this is ANOTHER Theatre project I'm doing that I'm incredibly excited about...

Went to work at 9 after sitting in the bar for an hour with two older ladies...exchanging bawdy jokes and theatre stories...they were great company, and I didn't stop laughing for ages...

Was on duty obs all night...which was hell as there were loads of technical problems to deal with, and I was also having to load-balance with Stockport...(I get to ring 'em up and tell 'em where to go MDEC wise)...and also read, summarise and produce a potted version of a 23 page long, unecessarily complicated ergonomics report. Joy!

Plus, 'cause there was no mail...everyone got to go home at 5:30 and muggins 'ere was stuck till 6am doing stats and spreadsheets. Bleh!

Anywho, got home by 7am...had pizza, went to bed. Got up just half an hour ago.

I have a headache and need to go to the shop again...dull dull dull!

Meanness to Soff Cuties!!: Well, not all that soff...but look below...poor sods!!!

This is quite interesting...if not highly controversial :

Good to hear your busy period got off to a reasonable start, it'll get better, probably.

By the way, checked some Malice Mizer, as suggested. Blimey, talk about variety. Gothic generally, but you never quite know what period of music it will be next, and that's a good thing - sort of like Mr Bungle or Phandomas.

That picture reminds me of this thing on C4 I saw where they gave mice ecstasy. They tracked them in this box; usually they'd go all over the place, but when the e kicked in, they just went round and round and round the outside for hours, and were toally happy to do so.

Keeping this short, trying to cut down. Nite.
