Miss Von Trapp
Found out last night that the cello piece I am playing...which I am doing ok on now btw...is actually Grade 7/8 standard...
Well bloody hell!!! No wonder it's been such a bitch!!!
I did Grade 5 in 1989...and, although I was working on grade 6 pieces when I stopped...I haven't played hardly at all since...and I've kinda thrown myself in at the deep end on this one...
Still...at least it proves to me that I can still just about do it...I just need to work on my bowing still...
I have a stupid cold...I'm off to town to get painkillers, orange juice and stuff...I feel like shit and I don't think I'll bother with work tonight...one of the theatre kids has probably given me it, so I hope I feel better in the next couple of days...I hate feeling ill...stops me from carrying on and doing stuff...
Anywho...off I go...
Btw...this is flipping awesome...I WANT ONE!!! :
: ) is one downside of living here- the damp sea wind that brings all sorts of nasties in with it. Try some echinacea
Now THAT is a lush jacuzzi!
What piece are you working on? I haven' been taking lessons or playing "serious music" since I switched out of music college (about 4 years ago), and I had to learn Kol Nidre in two weeks and it totally kicked my ass. In 1995 I could have played it with my eyes closed and one hand behind my back, but not I have to shake all of the rust off. I'm not getting into music (grad) school at this rate, better start the woodshedding process!
Post some pics of you and your cello.
Rachamaninov Romance in F-minor (track 6 on the Julian Lloyd Webber 'Cello Song' cd)...stupid of me, since my last lesson was in 1989...and I've had to relearn the tenor clef/fingerings/positions and everything...I'm pretty much playing it by ear and fingering...in 1st, 3rd and 5th positions with backward and forward extensions of the 1st and 4th finger respectively across A and D (descending and ascending)
If it wasn't for the fact that my parents are both music teachers, and have been able to go through it slowly with accompaniament I'd be SERIOUSLY buggered!!!
Shaking the rust off eh? I literally had to do that a few months back...got the cello out of the case for the first time in about 6 years, tried to tune it and all the strings snapped lol!!
I'll post some pics at some point maybe...but atm it would just be me scowling everytime my intonation fucked up hehe...
Aye, as long as it's heated, I'll have one, after all, if you're going to sit in there for ages, wouldn't want it going all tepid. Magic. Best of luck with the cello and all that, as I've said before, so-
Feel better now! (I should follow my own advice.)
I'd like to hear you play the cello. ;)
