A One-Off ManMental on Shoppage Trip... I am your Father!! [May. 6th, 2004|12:44 pm]
Miss Von Trapp
[Mood |awakeawake]
[Music |Silence and the sipping of coffee...]

Here I am sat drinking black coffee and eating hot buttered crumpets. Yum!!

Just woke up after five hours sleep...have some sewing to do today, and I'm off into town for theatre rehearsals this evening at about 5pm before work...

Yesterday was *the busiest*, most manic day of the week thus far!! I had about 3 hours sleep and went to meet Shauny in town...then we went on a SHOPPING SPREE!!

We began in The Works, where I bought a large freestanding easel - I have some living room paintings to do for Sharon, and am fed up with sitting on my bed and getting acrylic all over the duvet - some folders for my coursework, some arty postcards and a white neutral actors mask for the photography project I am thinking of doing...facelessness - crowds...mostly Shauny in mask amongst random townsfolk on escalators and stuff...or at bus queues...might be fun;)

Then we tootled down to the market, where I got distracted by a shiny ting...lovely black fake jet/silver victorian cross, and a couple of large black roses on hairbands... Looked at the camera shop in there...and got a Praktica MTL 5 slr camera for 30 quid...it's in incredibly PERFECT condition and was a veritable bargain (my tutor was astonished!)...AND HAS AN AMAZING EIGHTIE'S TYPE CASE!!!

(it was manufactured in Germany for Pentacon between 1983 and 1985 and I've just found one with a starting price of SEVENTY DOLLARS on Ebay!!)

We've called it the 'Vader Cam' and its photos will be developed in the 'Darth Room'... The case front is solid black resiny plastic and looks like Darth Vader's face; so I've been holding it up in front of mine and saying 'Feel The Force' all last night...and spent ages making Shauny giggle with my Zippy impression:

"E-E-Everybody knows that, Geoffrey!!"

Then we went for coffee in Cafe Rouge and trawled off to St Andrews church to have a look inside and take photos...took a lot of posey shots up by the font/statues on my Olympus Superzoom; which I think is misbehaving since I dropped it in Laughtons lol!! The delay after the flash seems too long...that or it doesn't understand ILFORDS HP5 Plus 400 ISO b&w film when indoors; will try it with a colour film and then see if it needs fixing.

Following which we met my youngest sister, quite by accident, whilst causing a scene of confusion in Jessop-Jessop-Jessop-Jessops...she was out with my middle sister's little girl doing some shopping.

And then went to the Art College to get my student card (god awful photo) and then the Art Gallery/Museum in town - the current exhibition was a tad dull, so we went to the museum shop instead...

Cue purchase of two papyruses to paint on, and a poster with 'Rules of the Inn'...no hawkers, circulars, whores and wenches...blah blah...

Then we were hungry. Very hungry. Too much walking and laden down with shopping...

We went to Isaacs, which is the university Staff refectory - no students allowed - and had vegeburger and chips. Shauny works for the uni, so we didn't get kicked out...wheee!!!

By then, it was nearly 5:30pm...four and a half hours of running round town Ab-Fab style...so we went to college.

This week we mostly learned how to do the developing and processing of prints...refreshing my memory as it's been 10 years since I did it properly...

Dev. Stop. Fix. = Goths average day out in Camden hehe...

We'll be making contact sheets and things next week...and we got talking to the Pink Lady (lovely lady from San Fran who wore pink shoes to the first session) and Nicki, from Manchester. We should be meeting up for a drink on Saturday and then take some random photos together about the place...

After the lesson was over, Shauny and I went to Voodoo Lounge for a quick drink before I went to work... Work was rather boring, and I kept falling asleep between 4 and 5am... Pauline gave me some black clothes she was getting rid of... A skirt, a velvet top...that kind of thing...

Sharon dropped me home at 6am this morning, still laden down with tons and tons of shopping bags, and I was asleep by 7am. Now I just have some sewing to do this afternoon (the dress for Friday) and need to eat before I go out later;)

Hooble Toodle Doo!!

I used to have a Praktica in the early 80s, can't remember what model. It was a great camera (we had a darkroom at home for a while). Unfortunately the camera packed up, something to do with the shutter and it was more expensive to fix it than to get a new one. I still have the lens somewhere, they said the lens was worth most of the value of the camera. I should dig it out, maybe i'd get something for it!

I think I gave someone advice because of your Peanuts influence on me. I used the term "The psychiatrist is in."

Did you charge them for it? Five cents was Lucy's going rate, right?

I'd love to see a picture of you with the Vader Cam. That reference as well the Darth Room, all combined into that image of you saying, "Feel the Force" just cracked me up big-time.

*tries to put Andrew back together*

Oh, you'd have loved the 'vintage' pen selection in the museum shop...fancy boxed quill pens with spare feathers and nibs etc etc...and japanese writing sets and stuff....

Was sorely tempted, but I can make my own and save myself fifty quid lol!!
