Seeing Red. Baking Bread. [Aug. 17th, 2004|06:18 am]

[Music |Siouxsie and the Banshees : Scrapheap (1977 demo)]

No, I didn't go to work last night - woke with a severely stuffy headache after my 'catnap' and could feel (and hear!!) my sinuses breaking apart between my eyes.

Horrible. And I couldn't bear the thought of eight hours of staring at a monitor typing crappy post with that going on behind my glasses...

I'm going to buy a BIG box of Nurofen Cold'n'Flu today - it's the only thing that works as it's full of pseudephedrine - and take that to work tonight. Lemsip Max Strength tastes nice, but isn't doing the job:/

Oh, and I took some pics of my newly-dyed fringe:

Gamma too dark on this comp, but hey!

Am liking this new red fringe thing...still going to grow it out long though.

There's a large white loaf on the go in the kitchen.
YUM!! I'm already thinking of hot buttered toast...

And yes, I think I look tired...still stuffy-sinus-headed:/

In Other News

I'm thinking of going vegetarian. I've been almost vegetarian for a couple of months now due to cashlack, and when I do eat meat it's only ever chicken breast or tinned tuna anyway. I eat a pasty (with beef in) maybe once a month if at all... I stopped eating red meat altogether in 1994 when the BSE thing hit the news, and kept it up until 2001 when I gave in and ate a steak pasty from Oggy Oggy, so it shouldn't be too hard.

I'm going to try it properly when I move to my parents on the 27th - I'm not a huge fan of my mother's cooking, and I witnessed her using Friday's bolognese in a Sunday lasagne this weekend - eeep!!! Don't trust what she does with meat and I'd rather do my own cooking anyway. missbumpkin (and any other veggies on my friends list) - I expect you to help me with this and provide me with yummy recipes hehe...

Just post them wherever;)

Pretty fringe ;) And VERY bright and lovely in real life!

I have lots and lots of veggie cookbooks (one of my slightly obsessive areas!) so I'll dig out lots of yummy recipes for you.

Snuffly hugs

Of course, I support your urge to turn vegetarian fully! What kind of recipes are you in the market for? I'd be more than happy to share...

As you probably are aware, I'm a big eater of potato...so anything potato-based is welcome...

Also, interesting things to do with vegetables - eg. how do I make courgettes taste tolerable??

Actually, I'm not too bad with veg - I even ENJOY sprouts lol!!

I love the fringe, makes a change. You look very stern in those pictures though, like you're staring down an attacking webcam.

Are you totally sure you'll manage being a veggie when you'er with your parents? I don't know about your mum, but trying anything different is impossible with mine, aparently if I don't eat what she cooks, I'll die, I beg to differ, offering up all sorts fo good explanations... "just get and eat it". Ah okay, I can't be doing with all this fuss.

Of course you're experience may differ. And bears shit in the wooods too, aparently.

(sorry about the ramble, I've just got up, I just want to dream again)

I *was* staring down an attacking webcam - it was four in the morning, I was feeling ill, and was desperately trying to do *something* to cheer myself up lol!

I reckon I'll manage - I have my own kitchen in the loft, plus they're on a different eating pattern than me - being nightshift, and being out generally when they sit down to eat;)

My mother spent many many years trying to get me to eat vegetables - used to be potatoes and peas only lol - so I think she wouldn't mind too much!!

love the new red bit, looks great.. so ur thinkin of goin vegie cool, i hav loads of recipes, but they all take loads of cookin and careful shoppin as in findin the best freshest veg u can at the green groccers and then just chuckin stuff together and usin herbs and spices. I tend to make stuff up as i go depending on what i can find that looks good.. but then im one of them guys that the only way to get me out of the kitchen is to say the washing up needs doin now..LMAO ;)

oh i just posted a photo on my journal of me the other nite lookin a pished..lol

I tend to chuck in anything with pasta lol! Kidney beans, peppers, mushrooms, tins of chopped tomatoes, curry powder - anything that comes to hand.

I think it's a form of 'student cooking' that I've never really grown out of...

Telling me the washing up needs doing tends to get me running screaming from the kitchen too - thankfully, my parents house has a dishwasher hehe!!

lucky u a dishwasher.. wish i had one, but i havent been able to find enough space to fit one into my kitchen :( and since i now live on my own (apart from my 2 huge black cats) im stuck with havin to do it myself, so i tend to pile it up for a couple of days and then do it in one go..LOL

Yeah my cookin has that studentest style too but with a bit more ponce to it LOL, as i watch UK Food when nothing else is on worth watching..LOL

got some nice field mushrooms today so goin to stuff those with something and do spicy vegie burger mix with Pimenton(hot smoked Paprika) rice and peppers and red onion with quartered cherry tomatos just to give the cooling down part..LOL

feeling hungry already, only another hour and i can finish work..lol

Go veg! I've been since I was 12 or 13, I don't even remember exactly. I'm not much of a cook, though, so I don't know what recipies i could pass on that aren't super-easy and obvious.

well, this is something i invented when the ingredients were the only things i had in the kitchen. i'm not sure how quanities would translate over there, but i'll do my best...

1 box of frozen chopped spinach
fresh garlic
handful of sundried tomatoes
parmesan cheese
any other spices you wish
pasta, preferably the spiral kind (i don't know the italian name)

while cooking pasta, dump the frozen spinach (do not thaw before hand, the water it releases when it thaws cooks it) spices, chopped garlic, and chopped sundried tomatoes in a pan and stir constantly so the spinach doesn't burn. you'll know it's done when the sundried tomatoes are soft.
pour this over the pasta and stir so it coats the pasta. using chopped spinach does this the best. add cheese, and there you go!

oh, and adding olive oil to the pasta helps the spinach coat the pasta evenly. forgot that part. :-)

Well, one stone of that was through illness and happened in about a week lol!! The other stone sort of fell off after that through being run down and not eating properly. I expect I'll get stuck at my current weight for a little while yet...(about ten and a half stone).

Feeling a bit better, yes. At least I survived work last night lol!!
