|||||Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: Supernaturally||]|
Ok, so after yesterday, here's the sensible post:
He's gone and done it again. I sat swaying and smiling inanely all through work last night - until 3:40am, that is, when my batteries died and I sat scowling till six...
Bloody Nick Cave!! Bloody Nick Cave's album(s)!!!
Abbatoir Blues is another one of those masterpieces that makes me smile ecstatically through floods of tears. Tears of sorrow, tears of laughter, tears of joy - and *SO* ultimately uplifting - 'Messiah Ward' has to be my favourite track on this album for producing that effect in me - it's an album which , whilst listening to, simply makes you want to hug or cling to someone, something - ANYTHING all the way through. Waxing a bit lyrical here I know, but thank gawd for private rooms and Snoopies is all I can say!!!
Lyre of Orpheus *appears* to be more light-hearted and humourous than the previous album - though, having said 'previous', Cave himself said that they are intended to be listened to separately and in their own right if you wish). Initially, it seems to be a jolly, happy album with an overall warmer/sunnier outlook...yet it begins to expose a bit of a 'twisty-dark' heart as it progresses. This is especially evident in 'Easy Money'.
'Supernaturally' is an utterly BRILLIANT track - a bit of a 'barn-stormer' - it's definately 'turn it up very loud, open a bottle of cheap red plonk and get the acrylic paints out' time for me with this one I fear!! Easily my favourite track across both albums...
'Spell', which follows it, is swooby-mahvellous as well (god, how I love that phrase)- but then, with all those glorious strings how could I *NOT* fall in love with it: it's one of those ones that makes me want to get my 'cello out and play along to again and again just as I did with 'Nocturama'.
But it's not just about the music - the words alone in both these albums are enough to make me weep... Oh gawd, it gets better and better - I won't spoil it any more for you by telling you EVERYTHING as I've done enough damage already... but it IS another religious experience on shiny silver plastic indeed!!
I *might* be hugely biased (ok, I am) - but if you don't love these two albums from the God himself, then you, my dear, are a cold-hearted, cold-blooded philistine!!!
(shall I get me hanky?)
In Other News
I've had four hours sleep and I'm off to college in a bit to watch Psycho!! Fan-bloody-tastic!! And my 'care package' has arrived from vashe - thankyou SO much babe:)) It's all so lovely (the Lindt chocolate will be devoured this afternoon no doubt - perfect timing for that too) but I had no idea what the stick things were till I read your letter lol - I see what they are now, and I was actually going 'wow' at someone who was wearing one on Saturday!!
(the above wasn't meant to be cryptic - I'm talking about snap/glo bracelets here - thought the two that were in my 'care package' were some sort of sherbet sweet till I checked, and thank gawd I didn't try to pull the end off...)
Oh, and poor Chloe with a sorely paw has to wear socks lol!! MITTENS FOR KITTENS!!!
*runs off to sort out paper-work*
