And the beat goes on... [Mar. 21st, 2004|09:29 am]
Miss Von Trapp
[Mood |awakeawake]
[Music |Scissor Sisters]

Gig last night went down very well indeed...

Got all set up at about 6:30/7pm...went on at 8pm...

Couldn't find my pvc trousers, so wore my black chiffon/taffetta 1950's skirt instead, with my black satin corset...pale white face, green eyeshadow, exaggerated eye makeup with death-curl and dots above one eyebrow... Looked cool!!

(took two photos)

Ruby was late, so we had to do a couple of random blues tracks until she arrived, then we got started...

I could barely hear myself playing at all through the first song, as everyone else had turned the balance up on their instruments... The sound guy put it up a bit for the other songs I was playing on, so I felt a bit better then, but it still went okay... I was happy with my performance:)

Plenty of people told me how good we were when we came offstage...apparently my cello sounded good...just wish I could have heard it a bit more, had to practically lean into the fingerboard to just hear my natural un-amplified tone... No wrong notes though...just had to be a bit more cautious than I'd wanted...

From this gig we have now got the possibility of more gigs elsewhere in Plymouth, support slots as well...next time I'll make sure the thing is louder...perhaps have to invest in my own electric pickup thing (which I don't have atm and had to make do with a microphone angled below the bridge).

Got home at 10:30pm...raging migraine...took two painkillers and went to bed.

I'm off out to theatre in 20 minutes...walking...will take me about 45 minutes to get there...rehearsal calls all day and the show in the evening...will be home sometime around midnight.

I *so* loved 'The Divine Comedy'...superb live as well!!

(Neil Hannon is GOD)

Still have no food and no money...will have to go begging for a 'pity parcel' from my mother on Monday I suppose...in the meantime, drinking citrus green tea (I have no milk) and nothing to eat...forced slimming!!

(I shall live on Music alone!)

Ho hum:/

Theatrical winks

I actually have heard a preview copy of the new album and it is quite good, I was planning on seeing them live here in London (the day we get back from Whitby!) but the show has sold out!
:( Perhaps they'll add a date at the venue since it sold out so super fast? If you like I'll burn you a copy of the album and mail it to you?

Re: Theatrical winks

If you would, that would be really cool!!

I first got into The Divine Comedy around 1993 and saw them live in Liverpool in 1995 or thereabouts...have ALL the albums and vinyl etc etc etc autographed, as I practically mugged Neil Hannon and got him to sign everything lol!!

(did a lot of that in Liverpool, and have a lot of autographed stuff/set lists etc etc...even BabyBird's music stand, which he gave me!!)

When your ass is the size of a small country...

No problem, I will certainly make you a copy and send it along...send me a "private" e-mail with your address and I'll mail it out asap. It'll come from my address in the states as I am going home for a bit of a vacation / research adventure. So don't be surprised if you end up with a parcel from New York! Nice to have someone else to prattle on with about the Divine Comedy, my best friend hatorisblindeye actually introduced me to them years ago. Not a lot of kids know about them in the states.

I like the new icon...cute!

Re: When your ass is the size of a small country...

Will do asap:)) A parcel from New York? Ooh...last time I had one of those it was a copy of 'Akwesasne Notes' (native american newspaper) when I was about 13 lol!

A 'research adventure', eh? Sounds fun...and a good excuse to go home for a bit...mind you, if you lived in this city, you'd NEVER want to go home once you'd strayed elsewhere lol!!

vimster made that icon for me...one of these days I'll get round to paying for my account...then I can have LOTS of pictures lolol!!

I can ask my friend Karen about recommended cello pickups, if you like. She knows all about that stuff.

Yay, congrats on the gig, and the possability of more. To be fair, you're at something of a disadvantage as far as the cello goes, losing out in power to the other instruments.

Ah yes, Mark & Lard palyed the new DC single the other day, I'd say they were on form. The imagery is superb, the bit in there where the International Business Traveller just dumps his luggage "I can buy another shirt and tie whenever I like" is brilliant.

I wonder if that's a reference to the lyrics in 'Too Young To Die'??

(Now it's time to say goodbye,
To my suit, my shirt, my tie,
My youth seems to have passed me by,
But I'm too young to die...)

Re: Divine...

Ahh but 'My Lovely Horse' is a superb song...

The 'comedy' stuff was really the only chart stuff (National Express, Frog Princess etc)...but you should listen to 'Summerhouse' or 'Your Daddy's Car' or anything off earlier albums really...

Not forgetting 'Lucy'...Wordsworth's poems set to music... Beautiful!!
